Day Three – Saying Good-bye

June 15, 2008 at 4:47 am (Uncategorized) ()

We had to say good bye to some kids that we love dearly.  Our neighbors are currently on thier way back to their  home in the Netherlands.  They’ve been our neighbors  for almost 2 years, since  we bought our home.  They lived here for almost 3 1/2 years.  They always knew that they’d be moving back, either when his  company decided it was time to  go or their VISA’s expired.  And, now the time  has come.

The parents will actually be back at the  end of the week to get the sale of the house finalized and to have the majority of thier  belongings shipped.  But, they left with their 3 children and 2 dogs today.  The kids and  dogs will stay with  grandparents in The  Netherlands  for 2 weeks until the parents wrap things up here and return.

They will be  missed.  I cried as I hugged each of the kids.  It is so hard to know that I will not  see them grow up.  All of the kids around here are like our kids, and  the neighbors feel the same way about mine.  It’s hard to lose  good neighbors, good kids and good friends.

It  hasn’t hit Iz yet that her friend won’t be there when she wakes up tomorrow morning.  I fully expect a melt-down next week when  Inge doesn’t come  out to  play.  Reality is not quite reality when you’re five.  I’m sure I’ll still have teart to cry with her when she realizes that her friend is  gone.

I hope we will see them again.  They have promised to visit at least every other year, and, we are tentatively talking about the  possibility of doing a house swap with them in a few years.  Maybe 3 weeks or so during summer.  But I’ll miss them in many  little ways until then.
